How a Puppy, a Podcast, and a Baseball Game Inspired More Hellos
Hi friends,
It’s hard to believe—Say Hello First officially launches in just five days! The past few weeks have been full of connection, courage, and a few “pinch me” moments I can’t wait to share.
🐾 Friday’s New Adventures
On July 5, I officially adopted Friday—the golden-lab puppy I had been fostering for just one week. She’s now 4 months old, growing fast, and turning into quite the social butterfly.
Passenger seat queen – Friday loves her car rides and surveys the world like she owns it.
In the office – my sweet, friendly helper who’s napped in my arms during Zoom sessions and greeted clients like an old friend.
At the picnic/park – living proof that joy and connection can happen anywhere.
On one walk, we met some neighbors I’d never spoken to in over three years—and for the first time, we learned each other’s names and exchanged contact info. Friday even made a doggy friend that day.
⚾ A Mets Game to Remember
This month, I went to my first NY Mets game in style—thanks to my daughter’s end-of-internship celebration at Citi Field. We toured the stadium, met some of the unforgettable, big-hearted New Yorkers Stephanie has connected with, and soaked up the energy of the crowd.
For me, it was also an “out of my comfort zone” day—I commuted solo from Connecticut to Grand Central and then took the subway to Queens and the stadium (yes, all by myself!). I made the most of it, intentionally saying hello to a few people along the way.
Mother–daughter moment at the Mets game — accidental matching outfits and all.
Boston Brainstormers lunch crew — great conversation with even greater people.
🧠 An Inspiring Night in Boston
On August 2, I attended the Hidden Brain live show in Boston and joined the VIP “Brainstormers” Q&A with host Shankar Vedantam. The evening was packed with insights, laughter, and conversation. One of my favorite moments was sharing a meal before the main event with fellow Brainstormers—diving deep into psychology, storytelling, and what makes us human.
Paul was a good sport about coming along to our second live podcast event this year (definitely more my thing than his, but he earns full credit for joining the fun).
The Countdown to Friday, August 15
📅 Mark your calendar for Friday, August 15 (our favorite day of the week… and our favorite dog). In just a few days, Say Hello First will be available everywhere books are sold. This book is my love letter to anyone who’s ever felt awkward, lonely, or unsure how to make that first connection. It’s filled with stories, science, and practical tips for building confidence, beating loneliness, and making real friends—whether at a ball game, on a city sidewalk, or during a walk with your dog.
The next time you hear from me, Say Hello First will be out in the world—and I can’t wait to celebrate with you.
With warmth (and a tail wag from Friday),
Bianca ❤️
